Take a Hike!

 Hard’Ack Scavenger Hunt

Can you find these 14 landmarks?

Below are images of a few distinct places from the hiking trails at Hard’Ack. Your assignment is to “take a hike” with a family member and see how many of these landmarks you can visit.

Please send images of you on your hike to mkonrad@maplerun.org & leldridge@maplerun.org

Hiking is for everyone. All shapes, sizes, ages, gender affiliations, abilities, everybody. Numerous studies have shown that getting out in nature has restorative effects for the body and mind for all people. These benefits go beyond just simply "getting exercise."
Nature is a space for us to unwind and reenergize.

What to do for PE class?

Below are two links with printable calendars that provide some daily activities & challenges from the SHAPE America website. They have great ideas to stay active throughout the month of May. Children aged 5-17 should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate-to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily. Amounts of physical activity greater than 60 minutes provide additional health benefits.

Fitness Testing

If we were still in school, grades 3rd through 8th would be taking their fitness tests. The 4 fitnessgram tests are; the PACER, Push-ups, curl-ups and sit & reach. If you wanted to see where you are in relation to the national standards I have some links below to help you take the tests.

The Sit & Reach is challenging to test without the box pictured above. Generally the healthy fitness zone for boys is when they can reach their toes and for girls when they can reach just past their toes.
